Daily Schedule

Since I am a stay at home mom, my daily schedule tends to vary. On most weekdays, I get up around 7:45 to make breakfast and pack a lunch for my husband. He works the typical 9-5 job, with varying hours here and there, so I pack his lunch to save money. He usually gets a sandwich (a fate I would not mind) because he does not yet have a microwave or a cooler in his work van. Usually, shortly after he leaves for work, Allison gets up and I make her some snacks, a bottle of milk, and put on some cartoons to keep her occupied. She also plays with her toys at this time, while I try to get some more rest- not really sleep because she likes to go to me every few minutes, but rest nonetheless. Around noon, Allison takes a nap. If we are out and about at this time, she sometimes misses her nap. I make her lunch around this time and then I eat something myself and have coffee. I like to make iced coffee at home from chilled brewed coffee from previous brewings. It tastes just like the iced coffee from Starbucks since I have caramel syrup as well. I am really happy that I have the option to make it at home. Then, I will play with Allison or we will go out with family, friends, or to run errands. My favorite store to go to is Kroger because it is very close by and there is always something I’m forgetting either for dinner or otherwise. I usually make multiple trips a week here. I should probably memorize the names of the workers since I see them so often. This Kroger has a Starbucks as well so if I do not make coffee at home, I get it here.

First Pearls – Zulily.com

I decided to get Allison her first pearl necklace about a week ago. I had planned to get her one long before this, but a good deal recently came up and I decided to use it. A website called Zulily.com has daily deals on all things for yourself, your family and your home. I decided to get this necklace which is already a great price, and I had a $10 off deal AND free shipping in addition. This necklace is made with cultured fresh water pearls so it is perfect for a toddler,as long as she does not break it and choke on it. Since she is under 3, I have to be careful and watch her whenever she is wearing it.DSC_1037

Zoo Day

It was beautiful day today and a large group of us stay at home moms decided to spend it at the Columbus Zoo. It was a little difficult to navigate with 8 adults and more than twice that amount in children, but it was still very fun. We all helped each other with the kids and it was a great exercise. I’m sure the kids all had fun- even the cranky ones that missed their nap times.  Allison rode in a wagon with her cousin and she was good for the majority of the time. She still wore herself out and fell asleep in the car soon after we left for home. I brought my camera along but it was difficult to take pictures because the kids are either always on the move, or there are too many people and things in the background.

Spring is in the air.

There are days where the weather warms up, and others where the cold feels bitter. The good days are starting to out-number the bad and I am very excited about this. I am already deciding on summer plans because there are many days in summer and I plan on spending a lot of them out of the house. Some places I want to visit with Allison are local coffee shops, the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, plenty of pools and more. I might also go to the Arts Festival again this year because last year Allison was still a baby and she did not get to enjoy it much. Also, I will definitely be going to the Ohio State Fair again this year. Last year, Allison got to ride a pony and I think she would like to do that again this year, as well as many other things. The fair is family friendly so it is a fun thing for all ages. I would also like to visit more of the parks in Columbus and in the surrounding areas. One of my favorites so far is Schiller park in German village because it has a lot of shops nearby that you can walk to to grab a book or a delicious cup of coffee.

Happy Easter!

I guess I never remembered how big of a family holiday Easter is. These past few years while married (and many years before that),  I do not remember celebrating in any special way. This year, however, we went to my brother’s house and had a big Easter dinner there. I had made lasagna and birds milk jello for the party. Both of these recipes are delicious, loved by many and make great party dishes.

Perfect Pet?

So far, Allison has technically only had two pets. One was a dog we had to give up when Allison was only a few weeks old because it was too difficult to take care of both an indoor dog and a newborn baby. The other was a fish that Allison got as a party favor at a birthday party. After the fish died, I did not bother to get another one because Allison did not have much interest in it anyways. We have visited the local pet stores a few times to play with the puppies. Allison likes looking at them when they are in cages but when they are let out to play, she gets cautious and does not approach them anymore once they get jumpy. Maybe she just has to warm up to them because she gets a little scared of the energetic puppies.

Hallandale Beach

Overview: We are more than halfway into our vacation and it has been filled with a lot of fun, sun and adventure. Allison loves swimming and enjoys playing in the sand even more. She is a little scared of the ocean but she likes swimming in the pool after she warms up to the idea. At the beach, she just plays in the sand and tries to either fling it at people or eat it. She’s also had her fair share of sandy grapes and other snacks on this trip. I’ve been using a 50spf baby sun screen but I think Allison got some color regardless. I don’t mind if she gets a little messy or sandy because it’s nothing a quick bath can’t wash off. The most annoying part of the sand and ocean though is that it causes her to get rashes quicker and I have to be more careful to prevent them.

Toothbrushes and Borscht

Allison’s crankiness continues as she gets more teeth. Her very back ones are coming in and it is starting to get difficult at night because it’s not as easy putting her to sleep. During the day, she stays distracted just fine. I bought her a beginner toothbrush and paste last week but so far I have remembered to use it only a few times. I need to start brushing her teeth when I do mine but by that time she is usually asleep. I wish she understood the habit more but right now the toothbrush is just a toy and the paste is just another snack for her.

Biking in Florida

The place my family will be going to vacation in two weeks is walking distance to a few places like Starbucks and Walmart. This year, however, my husband thought it would be a good idea for us to bring along bikes. That is why he bought me a new (used) bike and is planning on taking the one he has along as well. We also bought a bike trailer so Allison can come riding with us. The Schwinn trailer he got fits two kids so Allison’s cousin Liana (whose family is also going on vacation with us) can ride as well. I think bringing bikes will be a nice change and will give us a chance to exercise more on vacation and enjoy the nice weather in Florida while not being cooped up in a car for most of the time. Of course, we will still have to take the car to Miami because the ride is still quite long.
